Computing configurations are actually ill-suited to programming tasks. Consider the keyboard - designed to support (or hinder) the task of composing letters and essays. The editor provides a linear, fixed width arrangement of text elements suited more to the constraints of a line printer, than to any modern programming task. While some enhancements (code completion, syntax highlighting) have become commonplace in recent years, this project requires an imaginative reengineering of the development environment without retaining historical anachronisms.
